UNB, Dhaka :
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad MP on Thursday urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to curb all sorts of bad
governance, including crimes and corruption, with an iron hand.
He said, people feel that there is a lack of good governance. “Had there been good governance, extortion, tender manipulation, terrorism, bribery, corruption could not have taken place. Bad governance can be curbed with an iron hand.”
The Jatiya Party chief made the call while delivering his speech on the closing day of the first budget
session of the 10th parliament. He said they would extend support to whatever the Prime Minister does in fulfilling Bangabandhu’s last-moment dreams.
“What are you afraid of? Your father (Bangabandhu) liberated the country. You’ve done a lot. Now we’ll support whatever you do to materialise the last-moment dream (of Bangabandhu).”
He also read out his self-composed poem that reads: Amader jatra holo shuru, Agiye jawar shapath nilam tai. Sholo kuti manusher ashar protivate sob badha par hoye cholo agiye jai. Gorte shudu natun ekdesh, amar tomar praner Bangladesh.
On completion of reading out the poem, some MPs thumped their desks, while the premier seen clapping with a smile in her face.
Ershad said they enjoyed the parliamentary session adding that they do not want to leave the session with bitterness.
He alleged some members of the cabinet laughed at Jatiya Party urging them not laugh at the party. “We act as a shadow government. Isn’t it a democratic system? Why do you ridicule us?”
Criticising the Chief Election Commissioner Ershad said, “We’ve heard about our election commissioner that his backbone is not found in X-ray. We don’t want such an election commission.”
He said the country’s political situation slightly improved, not fully. “Criminal activities still take place in many places, including Narayanganj, Laxmipur and Feni. It’s a matter of regret that there has been no remedial measure in sight.”
