Customs Excise & Vat Commissionerate of Cumilla earned Tk 635 crore revenue only from the tobacco sector in the last five months of the current fiscal year.
This is the record revenue earning of the Commissionerate from the tobacco sector, according to a data.
With the inspiration and motivational work of the incumbent commissioner of the Commissionerate, the revenue collection is increasing day by day, officials said.The data showed that the Commissionerate collected Tk 160 crore revenues in November, which is the highest earning from the sector, while Tk 125 crore in July, Tk 100 crore in August, Tk 125 crore in September and Tk 125 crore in October.
The Commissionerate earned Tk 635 crore in the last five months of the current fiscal year, which was Tk 420 crore in the last fiscal year. The revenue collection growth is 51 per cent compared to same period of the last fiscal year, the data said.
Officials of the Commissionerate think that the incredible success has been achieved only for conducting various drives against illegal trade in the area.
“All the team members of 16 circles and six divisions under the Commissionerate are working sincerely. Monitoring and motivation are the main elements to speed up the revenue collection,” said Mohammad Belal Hossain Chowdhury, Commissioner of the Commissionerate.
Selection of competent officers for more complex tasks and introduction of monitoring incentives have helped speed up the process, he added.
He further said all officers will be rewarded in future for their efficient and competent revenue growth.
Mohammad Salah Uddin, Assistant Commissioner of the Commissionerate, said, “The tremendous success is only for a good team work. Officers and employees are working hard to collect revenue amid the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.”
Abul Khair Tobacco Company Limited, the only and one tobacco manufacturing company under Laksam Circle of the Commissionerate, paid all of the revenue.
Meanwhile, the Commissionerate has shown an incredible success in filing online returns. The government agency won the first place three times in a row. Some 93.68 percent returns were submitted online in October, said a press release issued recently.
