Cultivation of orange-fleshed sweet potato underscored

Speakers at a function underscored the need for cultivating BARI released orange-fleshed sweet potato (OFSP) to get desired output and reasonable price.
The farmers can be economically benefited through farming the Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute released variety of potato which change their socio-economic condition gradually side by side meeting the demand of nutrition particularly Vitamin A deficiency, they opined.
The speakers in their speeches said OFSP is a climate-resilient crop which can be grown on sandy and loamy land and it may be incorporated with local cropping pattern, reports BSS.
They made the comments while addressing a field day and taste-testing on BARI released OFSP sweet potato on the ground of Karaibari Community Clinic under Kamarjani union of Sadar upazila in the district on Wednesday.
International Potato Centre (CIP) Bangladesh in partnership with Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), a local reputed NGO, arranged the function funded by UKaid in collaboration with department of agricultural extension and BARI.
