The cultivation of Latiraj & BARI-2 Arum a profitable vegetable crops raised a hope among the farmers at Sadar Upazila in Gopalganj district recent years.
According to Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Agriculture Office sources said, a total of 150 hectors of land have been brought under Latiraj Arum farming in Sadar Upazila of them Korpara & Raghunathpur union 40 hectors where production target at 600 metric tonnes (MT), sources said.
Mujibor Sarder (50) a farmer of village Kangshur under Karpara union of Sadar Upazila in the district told the New Nation he cultivated Arum origin ‘Latiraj’ on 1.50 local bighas (78 decimal) of land this year where spending taka 45,000 if the weather condition remain unchanged but I will got above 126 maunds which market price is about taka 1,26,000 where duration time only seven months from it planting Mujibor said.
Dulal Biswas (55) another farmer of village Karpara under Gopalganj Sadar Upazil in Gopalganj said, he cultivated Arum origin ‘Latiraj’ on 33 decimal of land the growth condition of it is satisfactory. Where needed a small quantity of fertilizers & pesticides and short duration time and I will got about taka 54,000 from it produce, Dulal added. It is mentioned that a farmer can easily good profit from this farming because latiraj Arum is a profitable vegetable crop, Dualal said.
Sulekha Bala, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO), Karpara block of Karpara union under Sadar Upazila in the district told this correspondent farmers in this region becoming encourage origin on Latiraj Arum cultivation due to small investment but return is big.
Nilratan Biswas (65) a marginal farmer of village Karpara under Sadar Upazila said he cultivated on 26 decimal of land origin “BARI-2” where spending taka 15,000 but I will got about taka 42,000 from it produce because its growth condition is good & market price is satisfactory, where market price taka 1,000, Nilratan said.
Rabin Bain (52) a farmer of village Silna of Raghunathpur union under Sadar Upazila in the district told The New Nation he cultivated Arum on local two bighas (104 decimal) of land origin BARI-2 where spending taka 60,000 but I will got about 180 maunds of Arum which market price is about taka 1,80,000 one stage he said farmers in this region increasing on BARI Arum-2 cultivation day by day because this vegetable crops is more profitable comparatively any others vegetable crops.
Sabrina Siraj, Agriculture Extension Officers (AEO), Gopalganj Sadar told The New Nation Latiraj & BARI-2 Arum is more profitable vegetable crop for small & marginal farmers in this region where needed a small investment but farmers got a big return from it produce. On the other hand soil & weather condition is favourable for farming the crop. About 300 farmers in Gopgalganj Sadar Upazila involved this farming, Sabrina said.
