Cultivation of ‘Seetaria- ltalika’ crop locally known as ‘Kaun Rice’ is facing extinction from the northern region including Nilphamari district as the farmers are cultivating high profitable variety crops on their field .
Department of Agriculture Extension’s (DAE) Deputy Director (DD) S.M. Idris Ail said, ” the farmers of Domar, Jaldhaka , Dimla kishorganj and sadar upazila under Nilphamari district had been widely cultivated of the Seetaria-ltalika’ crop locally known as ‘kaun Rice’ earlier and achieved little benefit.
Now this crop cultivation is decreasing gradually from the northern region including Nilphamari district due to the farmers are cultivating high profitable variety crops day by day. Though some farmers are cultivated such type of crop partially in the season of the district”.
The DAE office arranged training programme and carried out campaign for using organic fertilizer before hybrid variety crop cultivation of every season. The farmer expressed their optimism about bumper production of cultivation, he added.
Farmer Rostom Ali 29, son of Kailtha Mamud of Chinir Kuthy Bazar village under Sadar upazila in Nilphamari district said, ”Farmers are cultivating the Seetaria -ltalika crops in the area earlier. But the farmers are not interested in cultivation of this crop now due to it is a valueless crop.
Though this year I have a total half-acre (15 decimal) of land and expecting bumper production of it”.
