Chittagong University Journalists’ Association (CUJA) on Monday formed a human chain on the campus protesting at the terrible attack on renowned writer and professor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal.
CU proctor Ali Asgar Chowdury, Arts faculty’s dean Prof Dr Shekander Chowdhury spoke in the human chain , while CUJA’s president Rahman Shoib presided over the program.
Besides , teachers, officials and students, leaders of Sammilito Sanskritik Jote of the university took part in the chain. Speakers at the protest demanded that the government ensure immediate punishment of the attackers.
Dr Zafar Iqbal, who was seriously injured in the knife attack on the campus on Saturday afternoon, is now undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka.
A young man, aged around 24-25, swooped on Zafar Iqbal around 5:40pm while he was delivering his speech on the closing day of a two-day celebration programme, ‘Robofight,’ of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department at Mukta Mancha.
The celebrated writer was first taken Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and kept at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where doctors said he was out of danger.
