Growers achieved a bumper production of cucumber in Bagerhat district this season. At the same time cucumber is being sold in the district at a high price. In this situation they are expecting a handsome profit from their produce.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) of Bagerhat, this year a total of 6,275 hectares of land had been brought under cucumber cultivation in the district targeting 30 MT of production per hectare.
Bagerhat DAE official Roghunath Kar said, farmers are producing super yields with the regular supervision, advice and supply of various agricultural materials from district’s agriculture office.
According to him, Chitalmari, Fakirhat, Kachua, Mollahat and the districts Sadar Upazilas witnessed bumper production of cucumber this year.
“The government has provided all-out support to the farmers for cucumber cultivation and it has helped them achieve a bumper production,” he added.
Roghunath Kar further said that every day the farmers of this district are sending cucumber to different parts of the country including Dhaka. Even traders from Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna and other district visit the area and purchase cucumber from the local markets.
When asked, he said, “Framers are free from the exploitation of middlemen, as cucumber is collected directly from their field.”

“We are happy because the yield is good. We are getting fair price of the crop also,” said a cucumber farmer who has cultivated cucumber in his 50 decimals of land this time.
Now he sells cucumber at the price of Tk 15 to Tk 20 per kg.
