School of Law, Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) organized a seminar on ‘Career in Law’ on Saturday. Iqbal Mahmood, Chairman, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was the chief guest in the event. Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, Founder and Chairman, Canadian University of Bangladesh conferred the vote of thanks at the event. Prof Dr William H Derrenger, Vice Chancellor, CUB inaugurated the seminar.
Chief Guest Iqbal Mahmood said ‘Law profession is a moral profession, law students should be morally aware. The important thing of the law profession is compliance with proper morality, in the light of experience gained the ability to discern the difference between social good and evil.’
Prof Dr Atiur Rahman, Former Governor, Bangladesh Bank and Sheikh Kabir Hossain, Chairman, Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) were the Guests of Honor on the occasion. Dr Uttam Kumar Das, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Program Officer, Social Dialogue and Industrial Relations (ILO) was the speaker at the seminar. Dr Syed Sharfaraj Hamid, Associate Prof and Head, School of Law convened the seminar. Prof Dr James Gomez, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Prof MA Arafat, Chief Advisor to the Board of Trustees of Canadian University of Bangladesh were also present at the event.
The seminar was organized for Graduates of Law to understand and distinguish the different sectors within the legal profession and services in the job market. As the Bangladesh economy grows and evolves, so has the legal profession and it’s timely that prospective career seekers in law receive the necessary industry updates. Canadian University of Bangladesh, School of Law is well placed to train future graduates aspiring to enter the legal profession given the university’s legal networks at the national and international levels.
