CU to honor ex-Indian President with D. Litt Jan 16

Chittagong University (CU) will honor former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee with a Doctor of Letters (D. Litt) degree on January 16 through a special convocation ceremony.
The University has taken a decision in its 52nd syndicate meeting recently.
Pranab, scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on January 15, will stay at the University Campus from 12pm to 2:30pm.
CU Registrar Prof Dr Kamrul Huda said the former Indian President is also scheduled to visit two dormitories – Surya Sen and Pritilata – during his visit and will deliver a speech for the teachers and students.
“The decision to honor him (Pranab) with D. Litt was taken in consultation with President (Abdul Hamid),” Dr Huda said. Pranab is likely to visit ancestral home of Masterda Surya Sen, an influential leader of Indian independence movement against British rule, at village Noapara under Raozan upazila in Chittagong.
He will be here on a three-day private visit and his programmes are being finalized. He also expressed interest to visit Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar district.
Pranab, who served as the 13th president of India and now enjoying his retired life by reading books and writing his diary, is likely to deliver speech as Convocation Speaker at the East West University in Dhaka apart from other engagements.
He will meet President Abdul Hamid and attend some other programmes in Dhaka, said the officials.
