The teachers of Chittagong University have threatened to halt academic activities yesterday in demand of the revision of the proposed pay scale and formed a human chain in front of the register building at around 11.00 am terming the pay scale as disgraceful and discriminatory.
Over hundred teachers were present in the human chain while the speakers criticised the government officials, especially the bureaucrats as they have formulated the pay scale for their own interest since the 6th pay scale.
The teachers under the banner of Chittagong University Teachers’ Association also held a demonstration after holding the human chain while they condemned the demands of the teachers of Dhaka University about the special designation for DU teachers.
The speakers said, according to the 5th pay scale, which was formed in 2005, the salary of the vice-chancellors, professors, secretariats was equal but under the proposed pay scale, formed by Dr Farash Commission and secretariat committee the grade of the university teachers was downgraded into two steps.
Prof Dr SM Abul Mansur, President , Teachers’ Association addressed said the teacher society would demonstrate on the road and the movement to meet their demand would be run until meeting their demand.
Qazi Khasrul Alam Quddusi, General Secretary , CUTA guided the programme and addressed the teachers are humiliated through facing such kind of heinous effort.
Besides, the speakers issued a-three-day time frame to meet their demand otherwise the teachers reject to take class adding that the next program is to wear black base.
Among others, Murseshdul Alam of Islamic History, Dr Rezaul Karim of Computer Science, Abu Noman, Dr Mahmudur Rahman of Botany, Dr Benu Kumar Dey, ex president of the CUTA Dr Sultan Ahmed and Dr Mahfuzul Hoque and Dr Mahbubur Rahman addressed.
Meanwhile, following to the appearance of the teachers at the program the academic activities of some departments came to halt.
