Mohammad Juel, CU :
The administration of Chittagong University has threatened the residential students, residing in several dormitories without authority’s permission, to expel from the university if found here after July 5. By this time, they were asked to collect allotment certification against their talent from the administration.
CU administration issued the notice to the residential students here, saying the hall students were asked to vacate the hall to enroll the legal students to the dormitories. Notably, the general students, attached to eight male halls couldn’t reside in the dorms due to political superiority and due to the occupation of the seats by the illegal students of the dorms.
The administration also issued notice that, all the rooms of both male and female dormitories would be searched and then sealed with police’s association. Proctor Ali Azgor Chowdhury told this correspondent that all the rooms would be searched and the students were asked to vacate the halls by 5.00 pm, June 8, adding that those, who may be either political or non-political will be detained if found after this time here.
The students who didn’t get allotment are considered the illegal students for residential facilities but unfortunately the practice of residing the illegal students here has been continuing for decades, said CU sources.
Students alleged that the authority has issued notice to take allotment certificate newly but the administration couldn’t ensure the taking off the students to the dorms, who already got permission to reside in the halls.
They also prosecuted that the authority already cancelled their allotment after being failed to enroll them to their respective halls while several students alleged that they paid yearly fees for inhabitation to the dorms but couldn’t reside here as the seats were occupied by the illegal students, especially by the political students.
However, some students greeted the initiatives of the authority as they believed that the authority now could manage to root out the illegal students, placing the legal students. Bikash Dash, a third year student said, we hail the initiatives but we have to wait till July 5 weather the authority could manage to enroll the legal students or the illegal others.
Mentionable, seven male halls allegedly were resided by a measurable number of illegal students now; moreover some allotted students are residing in another dormitory, turning aside his allotted halls. This requires more complexity for the authority in seat allotment.
It is alleged that, several outsiders who are studying in City’s several colleges and private universities were found resided in CU dormitories, especially in Shah Jalal and Shah Amanat Hall. They contributed to the factional-clashes of ruling party student front. However, both the president and Secretary of BCL denied the matter.
Earlier, Alaol Hall and A F Rahman hall was asked the mini cantonment of Shibir, who sheltered their prosecuted and convicted leaders during 2012-2014. Now the students waiting for the implementation of vacating the illegal students from the rooms, which they would get permission to reside.
