Dr Shirin Akther, Prof of Bangla Department of the varsity has been appointed as the first pro-vice chancellor for the next four years. She already took the charge early yesterday.
Under the Section of 14 (1) of Chittagong University Ordinance-1973, President and also the Chancellor of the university, Abdul Hamid appointed her for the next four consecutive years. Prof Shirin was made CU Pro-vice Chancellor after ten months to the post kept vacate as the incumbent Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury was appointed as Vice-Chancellor vacating the post.
On contacted, Prof Shirin expressed gratitude to the Chancellor Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and all concerned persons for giving her the charge, saying I will work for the betterment of the varsity and emphasised on eradicating session jam.
‘Those who interested to research-among teachers and students would get more facilities and the budget distributed to the research sector should be increased’ he added.
Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury greeted the newly-appointed pro-vice chancellor, saying writer of many books, Dr Shirin would took her charge properly and will work for the betterment of the varsity.
