Condemning genocide against the Rohingyas, Chittagong University (CU) authorities on Monday formed a human chain on the campus.
The human chain also extended its support to the five-point proposal of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to mitigate the Rohingya crisis.
Speaking at the programme organised under the banner of CU teachers, officials and students, Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury thanked the premier for providing shelters and assistance to Rohingya refugees. He also urged the United Nations (UN) to implement the proposals immediately. Myanmar has reportedly violated all human rights by forcing Rohingyas to leave their homeland, he added. CU Teachers’ Association President Professor Mihir Kumar Roy alleged that vested quarters are trying to cash in on the Rohingya issue by spreading fake photos and videos on social media. “Law enforcement agencies have to remain alert so that no vested quarter can destroy the communal harmony of our country,” he added.
