A third-grade employee of Chittagong University (CU) was arrested on Monday in a case filed under the Digital Security Act, for allegedly demeaning religion through a Facebook post.
The arrestee, Nibaran Barua, is an upper divisional clerk at CU accounts office, said police. He was arrested from the university campus at noon, said Belal Md Jahangir, officer-in-charge of Hathazari Police Station. On May 29, Mashiur Rahman, general secretary of CU Bangabandhu Parishad filed the case against Nibaran for “publishing derogatory posts” on Facebook on May 22 that “hurt religious sentiments of the Muslim community”.
