A Rangamati court on Tuesday sent Chhatra Union Chittagong University (CU) unit leader Chaina Patowary to jail after rejecting her bail petition in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
On June 2, Rangamati Kotwali police shown Chaina arrested after a local Chhatra League activist Ehsan Uddin filed the case accusing that Chaina hurt his religious sentiment through her Facebook post what he termed “defamation of Islam”.
The same day, a group of local youths besieged Chaina’s house at Sharnatila in Kamolchhari Sadar of Rangamati district in the afternoon, said police.
Being informed, police brought Chaina and her father to police station in the evening.
Ranajit Patowary, father of Chaina, a first-year music student and cultural secretary of arts faculty unit, claimed that no case was filed till 10:00pm. Around 10:30pm, Ehsan filed the case and Chaina was shown arrested, he said, adding that they would file petition in the higher court.
