The Chattogram University (CU) authorities celebrated its 53th founding anniversary on Monday amid festivity and enthusiasm.
In this connection, the teachers and students of the University brought out a rally on the campus on CU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Shireen Akhter inaugurated the day’s programme releasing balloons.
Students and the teachers placed floral wreath at the mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman followed by a discussion.
The celebration programme ended with cultural functions in the evening.
Meanwhile, more than 4000 students have been staying in nine residential halls in the campus.
Besides, a total of 30,000 students are living outside the campus.
The CU campus is situated at a place 20 miles away from the city over 1753 acres of land.
Started with the classes of M A (preliminary) of Bangla, English, History and Economics departments under the Faculty of Arts in 1966 with only 200 students and seven teachers, presently it has 46 departments, 5 institutes with more than 25000 students. CU has nearly 900 teachers, 400 officers and 2000 staffs.
