CU BCL’s unruly activities slated

Bangladesh Chhatra League, Chittagong University chapter, student wing of ruling Awami League was on the top of the discussion here in the running year for their unruly activities.
Frequent chaotic activities, factional clashes, cutting the fingers of rival’s colleague, assaulting with matched on the rivals and abducting the admission seekers were committed by the leaders and activities of BCL which tarnish the peaceful image of the university, the teachers and students said.
With the mysterious death of BCL central leader and CU ex-joint secretary Diyaz Irfan Chowdhury at the university area, CU BCL came into limelight again as the family members alleged that CU BCL president AlamgirTipu, Assistant Proctor Anowar Hossain and eight others were involved in the ‘killing’ of Diyaz Irfan. The death of Diyaz was mourned immensely and no other political colleagues, faculty members and the students could accept the death, triggering strong voice for the fair investigation into the incident and brought the culprits to book.
CU BCL came into limelight first after two faction of Chhatra League-one headed by BCL president AlamgirTipu and another by general secretary Fazle Rabbi Sujon locked into a clash on February 8 where Sujon followers cut the tendons of Tipu’s follower Arafat Hossain. A day after the incident, the duo rivals locked into a fierce clash in the midnight, injuring a dozen activists.
On February 9, just after couple of hours, the central body postponed the two-member committee and BCL again approved the committee with the formation of 201-member committee on July 18. Just after formation of the committee, the leaders and activists who failed to secure any post in the committee installed a siege program for indefinite period and locked into gun battle with the enlisted leaders who grab posts. On July 22, BCL central president Saifur Rahman Sohag and general secretary SM Jakir Hossain visited Chittagong to mitigate the crisis and on July 27, the central body re-formed 201-member committee 261-member body.
Meanwhile, the leaders and activists of shuttle train’s compartment based groups—varsity express (VX) and ‘Akakar’ locked into clashes on October 4, injuring eight others. Followed by the attack, the activists of VX group allegedly isolated the finger of Mahbubur Rahman Sahin, a leader of Akakar group in a bizarre attack.
Another leader TaiefulHuqTopu, vice-president of the body was also assaulted by rival group on October 29. Topu has been under treatment for two month long. The activists of president group attacked on the house of Diyaz Irfan, BCL vice-president Mamun and Nazim and looting valuables, ransacking the dispensaries, and vandalizing television and others followed by attack on Topu.
Meanwhile, just after 20 days of the incident, BCL central committee leader Diyaz Irfan Chowdhury was found hanging at his own room adjacent to the university. The family members and the followers of Diyaz lodged case against ten others including AlamgirTipu and nine others.
Side by side, an aspirants were abducted while he came to face viva-voce to choose subject on November 24 during Arts faculty viva by the junior leaders of Fazle Rabbi Sujon groups’. The last version of BCL factional brutality came on December 8 while the leaders and activists of BCL president AlamgirTipu and General secretary HM Fazle Rabbi Sujon locked a fierce clash, injuring 20 others. A day after the incident, the duo groups locked into further clash while the police with the help of university authority raided two halls and recovered rods, sticks, stone-filled sack and detained 40 others.
Meanwhile, the BCL leaders claimed, a few new-comers intrude the body and they committed the such-kind of activities. AlamgirTipu claimed, there is no any factional feud in CU BCL but some intruders trying to tarnish the image of BCL.
