The leaders and activists of Chhatara League of Chittagong University unit, student front of ruling Awami League have allegedly occupied Amanat Hall, the biggest dormitory of CU in collision with varsity administration.
The whole factions of CU BCL, except VX group have allocated the parts of Amanat Hall among themselves, neglecting the authority’s allotment which was ensued for the 124 general students. No general students was seen to enter into the dormitory. Earlier, the administration yesterday opened the hall without issuing any notice to the students who appealed for the seat of Amant Hall.
Prof Abul Manchur Ahmed, Provost of Amanat Hall said, we gave allotment to 124 students following their appeal and also said the authority also allotted some 130 seats to the BCL leaders. The viva-voce for further allotment would be called later, he added.
Sources said, the administration locked Amanat Hall after a clash ensued on January 08 this year between Chhatta Shibir men and activists of Chhatra League.
Following the clash the authority sealed the Amantat Hall and cancelled the allotment of all legal students. Then the authority asked the students to seek allotment newly but no sooner had the process accomplished than the administration opened the closed Amant Hall. In the meantime, Shibiir men under the banner of general students have been enforcing programmes including siege and destructive activities demanding the return of the legal students to their seats after their expulsion from the Hall.
Meanwhile, tensions gripped the students as the factions of BCL created panic situation over occupying the Amant Hall. A group has entered into the campus yesterday for establishing supremacy at Amanat Hall.
No BCL leader agreed to comment over the matter.
4 drug traders arrested in Rangamati: Kotwali Thana police of Rangamati conducted raids in different areas of the town on Wednesday night and this morning and arrested four drug traders.
Among the arrested three are young men and one is a woman. Police seized 50 bottles of phensydil, 10 liters of country made liquor and 10 pieces of Yaba tablets.
The arrested persons are Jasimuddin, Yunus, Abdul Karim and Shathi Akhter. A case was filed with Kotwali Thana in this connection. Officer in Charge (OC) of Kotwali Thana Mono Sohel Imtiaz said police will continue the raids to arrest other drug traders and criminals.
