CU academic activities resumes

The academic activities of the Chittagong University set to resume yesterday, following a faction of Chhatra League called off the indefinite strike after a ‘fruitful’ meeting with BCL central top leaders on Friday.
The ‘deprived’ BCL leaders of CU unit with the allegation of ignoring the dedicated leaders in the newly formed CU BCL body went on indefinite strike on July 18, just after the central body approved 201-member CU BCL committee with President Alamgir Tipu and general secretary HM Fazle Rabbi Sujon.
With the five-day of strike, the BCL leaders failed to obtain any posts, attack on shuttle train, injured loco motive master, police and railway employees, kept the main entrance of CU under lock and key and had been demonstrating for five days, demanding the amendment of the list.
The BCL strike create deadlock as shuttle train authority suspended their operation, showing security concern and the student didn’t went to the campus, fearing insecurity.
On contact, railway authority said, the shuttle train operation would resume yesterday as per earlier schedule.
CU proctor Ali Azgor Chwdhury said, the academic activities would revive today, admitting the loss of the students during strike. Bipul, one of the agitators said, the strike has been withdrawn after a fruitful meeting with central leaders.
Earlier, BCL president Saifur Rahman Sohag and general secretary SM Jakir Hossain reached Chittagong on Friday, holding separate meetings with AL Chittagong city unit president ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and general secretary AJM Nasir Uddin in the afternoon where the deprived and new committee delegates were also present.
To handle the ongoing crisis, full-fledged committee would be amended where the deprived leaders would be recruited and the controversial would be scrapped, said a BCL leader, who was present in the meeting.
During the meeting, the BCL central leaders asked them to hand over a list of those deprived and dedicated leaders who failed to beg any post and just after order the delegates handed over a list to the top body.
JakirHossain told the reporter that the crisis is over and following the decision the strike was withdrawn.
‘No boggi based politics’
Blaming the compartment based politics for BCL factional clashes in CU, the top leaders imposed ban on it, registering threat to take stern action against those of involved in boggi-based politics. The two leaders said, ‘No to boggi-based politics’.
To remain usual the shuttle train operation and maintain order, the central committee of BCL, student wing of ruling Awami League, issued a notice on Thursday evening regarding the ban on ‘shuttle train’ politics.
After the direction from the central body, we warns our activists of taking stern action if found involved in boggi based politics, CU BCL president Alamgir Tipu. CU BCL sources said BCL activists and leaders were running their political activities under dividing into 10 more groups which was mostly formed with shuttle train compartment.
Jihadi books recovered from CU female dorm: Hundreds of books and booklets written by Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and jihadi books were recovered from the prayer room of a female dormitory of Chittagong University on Friday.
A female student of Pritilata Hall informed the hall authorities after seeing the books in the prayer room on Thursday night. Later, hall Provost Shamima Ferdousi informed police. On information, police went to the hall and recovered those books, said Sub-Inspector of Hathazari Police Station Anisur Rahman.
