Chittagong Bureau :
A housewife in Chittagong gave birth to six children on Saturday morning at the port city’s Jameson Red Crescent Maternity Hospital.
The woman was identified as Rabeya Anwar, 25, wife of M Yakub, hailed from Fatikchhari upazila.
Yakub is a non-resident Bangladeshi based in UAE. Rabeya was taken to the hospital as soon as she started feeling the labour pain in the morning. Three hours later, she gave birth to a baby boy and a girl, and later four more within a short span of time without any operation.
The baby boy along with three other baby girls died as they were deemed ‘underweight babies’.
Gynaecologist of the hospital Ruby Dutta said, “Rabeya became pregnant for six months only. The lives of all her children could be saved had she been provided with regular care and treatment.” Being a ‘conservative family,’ her parents-in-law did not allow her to visit doctors on regular basis, she observed. The mother along with two of her living baby girls have been shifted to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital for better treatment and care.
