Different political, socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions will observe the Martyred Intellectuals Day here today in a befitting manner.
Different political parties, socio-cultural and professional bodies will organise discussion, cultural functions and milad mahfils marking the day. The programmes include placing wreaths at the altar of the central Shaheed Minar, photo exhibition, public gathering, discussion and candle lightening. Chittagong city unit Awami League will hoist black flags and keep the national and party flags half-mast at its Darulfazal Market Central Office on the day.
The city unit AL will also place wreaths at Shaheed Minar in the morning and arrange a discussion at the party office.
National flags will be hoisted half-mast at all the public offices and important institutions.
Chittagong centres of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar will air special programmes while local dailies will publish special articles highlighting the significance of the day.
Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) and Chittagong Press Club (CPC) leaders will also place wreaths at Shaheed Minar in the early hours of the day.
Chittagong district administration, district chapter Shilpokola Academy and Shisu academy will organise discussions and essay competitions on the occasion.
Meanwhile, different educational institutions including Chittagong University (CU), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), University of Science and Technology in Chittagong (USTC) have set elaborate daylong programmes in observance of the day.
