Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal MP said , Tk.80000 crores will be spent in greater Chittagong for overall infrastructure development during the tenure of present govt .
The Minister said Chittagong is the bridge connection of Bangladesh’s development and these proposed development projects will be visible by next one or one and a half year.
The Minister disclosed it while addressing a discussions on “Bangladesh Development Prospect-Chittagong” held at circuit house here on Saturday evening arranged by Awami League led 14-party alliance as Chief Guest.
Minister for Housing and Public Works Engr.Mosharaf Hossain was present as special guest duly presided over by the City AL President and former city Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury.
The Planning Minister said Chittagong and Cox’sBazar have special characteristics for undergoing the development work and such development work can not be done in other place if anyone so desires.
The chief guest disclosed that during the tenure of next five years, Deep sea port, Tourism complex, coal turbine power plants, development of roads and highways, extension of railway track to Coxsbazar upto Gundum, special economic zones at Anowara and Mirsarai, Kalurghat-Boalkhali road bridge, renovation of Kalurghat railway bridge will be implemented.
He said development of Chittagong is the development of the country. He further said Moheskhali will be developmed as Energy Region of the country where 1200 MW and 6000 MW coal turbine power plant will be built in phases.
About deep sea port , India, China,Japan, USA and Netherlands expressed their interests in this project but scrutiny of the proposals is underway.
About grabbing of Coxsbazar marine drive road, he said the road is now under occupation of different front organizations leaders of the ruling party not any Rohingyas.
The Planning Minister accused the AL, BNP for joint mission to grab the roads, footpaths and the AL, Chhatra League, Jubo League leaders are being patronized by the ruling party in occupying the govt lands. He said if any irregularities , grabbing of roads and highways by any quarters is visible to foreign donors, they will stop investment instantly in any development projects.
The special guest Engr. Mosharaf Hossain MP said the present govt under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has extended enough fund for expansions of city roads of Chittagong with the active supervision of CDA. He said he also received a proposal for flyover from Shah Amanat International Airport to Barik Building for quick transportation to airport from city . In the meantime, China has expressed interests to construct flyover and decision will be taken after discussions with the concerned bodies .
City AL General Secretary AZM Nasiruddin was the moderator of the summit talk . Central working President of JSD Moinuddin Khan Badal MP delivered the welcome address in the summit. Administrator of Chittagong Zila Parishad and General Secretary of Distsrict AL MA Salam presented key note paper of these development project.
