Ctg Port to be equipped with more instruments: Shipping Secretary

Secretary of the Shipping Ministry Ashok Madhab Roy yesterday said that country’s principal seaport Chittagong, which is presently reeling from instrument shortage, will have at least 10 percent more instruments than its requirement by 2021.
He said that no proposals regarding the development of Chittagong Port will be kept shelved for more than one week.
“Capital dredging of the port which remained shelved for legal dispute, will start soon as a new contract has been signed”, he said this while exchanging views with the port users on simplification of export import activities and operation of customs activities round the clock at Port Training Centre conference room.
Proposing formation of “Port Coordination Committee” comprising port, customs and concerned stakeholders, the shipping secretary also asked to convene a meeting in a month in order to resolving problems in the port and customs quickly.
Lawmaker MA Latif was present as the chief guest with Port chairman Rear Admiral M Khaled Ikbal in the chair.
