Ctg Port now allows bigger vessel to berth

A ship of 196-meter length was reportedly allowed to anchor at the Chittagong port, crossing the port’s capability of docking highest 190-meter-long vessels The ship ‘Zanpol Force’ docked at the jetty no.13 in the General Cargo Berth (GCB) on Friday morning last. Local agent of the ship stated in the document submitted to the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) that the ship is within the limitation. CPA firstly denied the ship’s anchorage there as she was found 196 meter in length, measuring in internet app. Afterwards, the ship was docked following higher authority’s permission.
The incident has drawn criticism among the shipping agents and the port users.
 “Bringing a ship of 196-meter at the port, without permission from the authority earlier , is an unimaginable matter,” a port official told mediamen , on condition of anonymity.
Bangladesh Shipping Agent Association Chairman Ahsanul Huq Chowdhury said even anchoring a 200-meter ship also will be possible if dredging is conducted to some extent and safety measures are taken.
