Chittagong Port Authority ( CPA) has installed Dissalination & Water Treatment Plant within the port area at a cost of Tk.26.50 crores. Minister for Shipping Shahjahan Khan MP inaugurated the plant yesterday evening as Chief Guest. Secretary of the concerned Ministry Shafiq Alam Mehedi was present in it as special guest.
Chairman of the CPA Rear Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed presided over the inaugural ceremony of the plant.
With technical assistance of Italy , the plant was installed at own fund of CPA, sources said. This installation of the water treatment plant incurred about Tk.26.50 crores including Tk.2.50 cr as consultancy . Project Director of the Water Treatment Plant Mesbahuddin Ahmed told the New Nation that out of 6850 cubic meters of daily requirement of CP, CWASA used to supply 3780 cubic meters on average a day .
Source said this plant will produce atleast 8000 cubic meters of waters daily leaving about 1500 cm as surplus. Sources further said out of the total production of this water plant , the demands of domestic needs in CPA residents and supply of pure drinking water to foreign vessels will be fulfilled and moreover CPA will be able to earn more than Tk.10 crores annually by selling the pure drinking water to foreign vessels in the port.
