Ctg people hail verdict against Mir Quasem, Kamaruzzaman

Supreme Court Appellate Division upheld the death sentence of Asstt. General secretary of Jamaat Md. Kamaruzzan yesterday. A 4-member SC Bench headed by Surendra Kumar Sinha delivered the verdict yesterday. On May 9, 2013 ICT-2 awarded death sentence by hanging to him and accordingly he appealed before the SC appeallate division.
Activists of different political parties and cultural organisations including Gonojagaron Mancha brought out jubilant processions over the death sentence awarded to Jamaat Asstt Secretary Kamaruzzaman for his crimes against humanity during Bangladesh’s War of Liberation. in 1971.
Different individuals who received tortures by Kamaruzzaman expressed mixed reactions after supreme court’s appeal verdict yesterday upheld the death sentence .
Soon after deliver of the verdict, hundreds of people brought out processions from different parts of the city and started to gather at the Chittagong Press Club (CPC) premises.
Welcoming the verdict, Gonojagoron Mancha in Chittagong also brought out procession from the CPC premises which concluded at Chittagong Central Shaheed Minar after parading different city streets.
Paying tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War, the Gonojagoron activists placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar and held a rally there.
Coordinator of Gonojagoron Mancha in Chittagong Sharif Chowhan said the verdict fulfilled the expectation of the masses.
He urged the government to execute the verdicts of all war criminals as soon as possible.
Welcoming the ICT verdict, Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Chhatra League also brought out separate processions at different parts of the city.
The leaders and activists of the party gathered at Darul Fazal Market party office and held a rally there.
The locals of Chittagong have welcomed the verdict of death sentence against Mir Quasem Ali, a leader of vigilante militia gtoup Al-Badr during Bangladesh’s Liberation war in Chittagong region also well-known as ‘Bangali Khan’ for his ruthless crimes against humanity.
As soon as the death sentence to Quasem was handed down on Sunday, large number of people chanting the ‘joy Bangla’ slogan came out in the streets. The people of the port city also brought out several processions hailing the verdict in different parts of the City.
Nur Jahan Khan, wife of Saifuddin Ahmed Khan, leader of a left leaning political party expressed her satisfaction over the verdict.
