Ctg mayor cautions about Rohingya’s birth registration

Chattogram Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has urged the concern CCC officials to register births and deaths with caution, noting that many Rohingyas who have taken refuge in Bangladesh are trying to get citizenship illegally.
The mayor made the call while addressing a discussion meeting on National Birth and Death Registration Day at the CCC conference room at Tiger Pass in the city on Wednesday (October 6th) at noon. He said that the Hon’ble Prime Minister has given them asylum for humanitarian reasons.
Therefore, birth registrants should take special care so that no Rohingya is included in the birth and death registration. CCC CEO Mohammad Shahidul Alam presided over the meeting, the zonal medical officer of the corporation presented an illustrated report on why birth and death registration is necessary.
CCC Secretary Khaled Mahmud, Acting Health Officer. Md. Ali, Birth and Death Registration Assistant Rabiul Alam and Bikash Kanti Mallick. Reserved Councilors Nilu Nag, Ferdousi Akbar, Private Secretary to the Mayor Muhammad Abul Hashem were present in the meeting.
At present, a total of 15 lakh 99 thousand 755 people, including 6 lakh 29 thousand 935 men, 6 lakh 69 thousand 946 women and 3 others, have been registered online in 41 wards of CCC, the zonal medical officer said in his report.
A total of 2,925 people, including 2,134 men and 691 women, have been registered online.
At the meeting, the birth registrants sought the cooperation of the EPI staff to complete the birth registration within 45 days.
They said the newborns came to the ward’s vaccination center to get vaccinated. In that case EPI staff can inform and motivate the parents of the child about the importance of birth registration.
