Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has declared the Joynagar residential area under the Chawkbazar police station in the city a red zone. On Monday (April 19) at around 11 am, the police brought the Jayanagar Residential and CMCH Hospital Staff Quarters area under the red zone and hung banners.
Confirming the matter, Chawkbazar Police Station OC (Operations) Sarwar Azam said, “According to the IEDCR guidelines, if more than 60 out of every one lakh people are infected with corona, the area can be considered as a red zone.” As such, the number of corona cases in this part of Chawkbazar area has exceeded four hundred. So this area has been marked as a red zone and locked down.Last year, 10 areas of Chittagong City Corporation were identified as red zones. Among them are Ward No. 36 and 37 of Chittagong Port, Ward No. 39 of Patenga, Ward No. 10 of Pahartali, Ward No. 18, 20, 21 and 22 of Kotwali, Ward No. 14 of Khulshi and Ward No. 27 of Halishahar area. Later, on June 17 last year, the North Kattli area was locked down for the first time on an experimental basis.
