Journalists in the port city of Chittagong yesterday staged a mass prayer for ailing Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) president Altaf Mahmud and sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s support for his treatment abroad.
A number of journalists based in the port city joined the prayer seeking early recovery of Mahmud, now being treated at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) with virtual paralysis from his lower abdomen, at the Chittagong Press Club (CPC). Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) organized the prayer for the president of the apex body of journalists unions across Bangladesh where the speakers also sought the premier’s assistance for sending him abroad for better treatment.
