Demand release of its members; another mobile court attacked; 42 illegal structures removed
Chittagong unit of Bangladesh Chemists and Druggists Association will keep all the pharmacies in the district closed for around eight hours till 2:00pm on Sunday demanding release of its 12 members and withdrawal of a case against them.
The declaration came from a human chain before Chittagong Press Club yesterday.
The 12, all are pharmacy owners and staff, were arrested after they along with other fellows allegedly attacked a mobile court conducting a drive against illegal drugs on the city’s KC Dey Road on Tuesday.
An assistant of the mobile court filed the case with Kotwali Police Station accusing 18 pharmacy owners and staff and 150 unnamed people.
Meanwhile, residents of Lake City Residential area hurled projectiles at another mobile court of Chittagong City Corporation during a drive against illegal establishments yesterday.
Police fired nine rounds of rubber bullets and 10 tear gas shells and calmed the situation, said Akbar Shah police.
However, the court removed 12 illegal tin-roofed houses, said Executive Magistrate Nazia Shirin.
