The election to Chittagong District Bar Association (CDBA) will be held today (Tuesday) with three contesting panels .
Election Commission sources said, all preparations including printing of ballot papers have been completed and candidates have been urged to obey the election rules strictly. Chief Election Commissioner Adv Sayed Mohammad Sirajul Alam told that wall writing, house campaign and pasting posters have strictly been prohibited..
Candidates are also obeying the rules and regulations as per the directives of theelection commission, he added.
Three panels, Awami League and pro-liberation forces backed Chattagram Sommilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad, progressive and left leaning Somomona Ainjibi Sangsad and pro- BNP-Jamaat backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad are vying for posts in the election this year.
CDBA sources said a total of 49 candidates are contesting for the posts of 19 office-bearers including 10 executive committee members.
Mohammad Mujibul Hoque from Sommilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad, Akter Kabir Chowdhury from Somomona Ainjibi Sangsad and Mohammad Kafiluddin Chowdhury from Ainjibi Oikya Parishad are contesting for the post of President.
Besides, Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury from Somonnoy Parishad, S M Jahed Biru from Somomona Sangsad and Mohammad Enamul Hoque from Oikya Parishad are in the race for the post of General Secretary.
Adv Sayed Mohammad Sirajul Alam will act as the Chief Election Commissioner, while Advocate Mohammad Fakruddin Chowdhury and Advocate Porimol Chandro Bashak as election commissioners. Voting will begin at CDBA Auditorium at 9am and continue till 4pm without any break, the sources said. A total of 3348 lawyers are eligible to exercise their right of franchise in the election.
