The much- talked about biennial election to Chittagong District Bar Association (CDBA) was held yesterday with three panels contesting the election.
The casting of votes began from early 9 am which continued upto 4 pm. The counting of votes now going in presence of the agents of the respective candidates by the Election commission.
Chief election commissioner Advocate Sayed Mohammad Sirajul Alam told that in 19 posts includes 9 posts including President , Secretary and 10 executive members and 50 candidates from 3 panels are contesting the election.
Candidates are also obeying the rules and regulations as per the directives of theelection commission, he added.

Three panels, Awami League and pro-liberation forces backed Chattagram Sommilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad, progressive and left leaning Somomona Ainjibi Sangsad and pro- BNP-Jamaat- backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad are vying for posts in the election this year.

CDBA sources said a total of 49 candidates are contesting for the posts of 19 office-bearers including 10 executive committee members.

Mohammad Mujibul Hoque from Sommilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad, Akter Kabir Chowdhury from Somomona Ainjibi Sangsad and Mohammad Kafiluddin Chowdhury from Ainjibi Oikya Parishad are contesting for the post of President.

Besides, Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury from Somonnoy Parishad, S M Jahed Biru from Somomona Sangsad and Mohammad Enamul Hoque from Oikya Parishad are in the race for the post of General Secretary.

The counting of votes going on fullswing and the final results will be announced by 10 pm (Tuesday), EC sources said.
