Chattogram Bureau :
Chattogram Customs Authority is organising multiple auctions in
a month to clear the container yard of Chattogram port.
But the auction
participants (bidders)
complain that there
is a huge difference between the reserve price of the auctioned goods and the current market rate.
Besides, after auctioning the same product again and again and after getting the product approval, it is seen that the importer filed a writ in the High Court. In this case too, the auction process is being interrupted. Several bidders said that customs authorities often do not check whether there is a case while picking up goods for auction. But it is seen at the clearance stage after the product is approved, the importer has a case. Then the product redemption process is suspended until the case is settled.
Bidders are losing interest in the auction. An official of the auction wing said that once the reserve price of the goods was not fixed before the auction.
But for two years the reserve price of each product is determined and then included in the catalog. In addition, the sale is being approved in favor of the highest bidders within a short period of time.
In this regard, General Secretary of Chattogram Customs Auction Traders Welfare Association Mohammad Yakub Chowdhury told the media that in the recent auctions of Customs, it is seen that no new products are included in the catalogue. Bidders are losing interest in the auction.
