The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has taken an initiative to keep Chittagong Custom House open for 24 hours. The NBR issued an order recently saying that the custom house will remain open 24 hours every day to facilitate faster trade through speedy clearance of export and import commodities from the country biggest seaport.In the order it was said that CCH would carry out examination, valuation and clearance related tasks of export-import consignments every day, except for holidays.
The decision comes against the backdrop of rising congestion at the Chittagong port, which handles more than 90 percent of the country’s overseas trade, which was ultimately affecting businesses.
The revenue administration asked the Chittagong customs office to carry out valuation of goods in coordination with Chittagong Port Authority, shipping agents and other stakeholders , Customs comissionerate , Chittagong sources said.
