The sculptures of 11 cricketers have got a touch of reform in the lower areas of the city. The broken parts have been restored.
The sculpture was erected by Chittagong City Corporation on the occasion of Cricket World Cup in 2011. But due to lack of maintenance and supervision, the sculptures once became a cause of loss of beauty.
The sculpture features four batsmen, four bowlers, two fielders and a wicketkeeper. In the absence of reform, spider webs get stuck in the player’s mouth. Three of the four batsmen did not have bats in their hands.
Also a bowler’s arm was broken. The red-green jersey turns gray in the dust. The name of Bangladesh behind the jersey is also erased. The boundary wall was broken by the car. City Corporation sources said the installation was built by an advertising agency called which was funded by the Ministry of Local Government. These sculptures were renovated during the T20 World Cup in March 2014.
