Ctg city life reels under incessant rains

Torrential rains since Thursday caused by active monsoon have disrupted the life in the port city as the rainwater inundated most of the streets and lanes.
Patenga Met Office recorded 463 millimetre rains in the last 48 hours till 9 am Saturday.
Light to moderate rain or heavy rainfall may occur in Chittagong division in the next 24 hours beginning from Saturday as monsoon remained active, said Biswajit Chowdhury, an official at Potenga Met Office.
City dwellers have been facing untold sufferings due to waterlogging in different low-lying areas.
The incessant rains began on Thursday night and continued till Saturday noon inundating
Muradpur, Bahaddarhat, GEC intersection, Oxygen intersection, Hamzarbagh, Agrabad access road, Agrabad CDA residential area, Boropole, Halisahar, Bakalia, Potenga, Kathgorah and CEPZ intersection.
The people of these waterlogged areas had to wade through knee to waist-deep water in the morning.
Meanwhile, rains disrupted loading and unloading of goods at the outer-encourage in Chittagong seaport but loading and unloading of goods carrying containers at jetty remained normal.
The rains also forced the first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa to end in a draw on day five in their two-match National Polymer Test Cricket Series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Saturday.
