Two cases were filed against 108 people, including the President and General Secretary of Chittagong city unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) with Kotwali Police Station early Wednesday.
Sub-inspector of the police station M Mahiuddin filed a case against city unit BCL president Imran Ahmed Imu and 54 others for preventing police from discharging their duties during a clash over the construction of a swimming pool at Chittagong outer-stadium in the city on Tuesday.
Shafiqul Bari, director of swimming pool construction project, filed another case with the same police station against 58 people, including city unit BCL president Imu and general secretary Nurul Azam Rony, for vandalising the tin-shed fence encircling the construction project.
Leaders and activists of Chittagong city unit of BCL clashed with police as they tried to stop the construction work on a swimming pool, leaving seven people injured.
Police and locals said, a group of BCL men, said to be loyal to city Awami League president ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, submitted a memorandum to the authorities concerned on April 16 seeking cancellation of the swimming pool construction claiming that it will hamper games.
As the authorities concerned continued the construction work, the BCL men tried to enter the stadium in the afternoon on the day in their bid to stop the work.
The clash broke out as police prevented them from entering the construction site.
