The organisational activities of ruling Awami League got momentum ahead of National Council of the party scheduled to be held on October 22-23.
The leaders of Chittagong City, Chittagong North and South District Committees have become very active. They are trying to include their names in the new central committee which will be formed in the 20th National Council.
Meanwhile, the leaders have started lobbying and trying to manage the influential quarters of the incumbent central committee for including their names in the central committee. Besides, the root level leaders are trying to include their names as councilors and delegates. Several new faces are likely to be included in the new central committee of the ruling party in the upcoming council, according to sources. Incumbent Presidium Member and Minister for Housing and Public Works Engineer Mosharraf Hossain likely to be presidium member again while the former mayor of Chittagong City Corpor-ation and president of Chittagong City Awami League ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury will also be the new presidium member in next council.
Besides, Mahbubur Rahman Sohel, son of Mosharraf Hossain and Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, son of ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury are likely to be included in the new central committee, sources in Awami League in Chittagong said. Besides, incumbent Press and Publicity Secretary of central Committee Dr Hasan Mahmud, EC member Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, Aminul Islam Amin and Bir Bahadur MP will be included again in the central committee while former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League Mainuddin Hasan Chowdhury, Joint secretary of South District Awami League Shahazada Mohiuddin, brother of CDA Chairman Nurul Islam Nuru, Barrister Biplob Barua, Salahuddin Mahmud, former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League Mahafuzul Hyder Roton and Proshanta Barua from Cox’s Bazar are likely to be included in the central committee, sources said.
On the other hand, the incumbent member of Advisory Committee Prof Dr Anupam Sen will be the member of Advisory Committee again while University Grant commission Chairman Prof Abdul Manan is trying to be included himself as the member of Advisory Committee. However, some law makers, mayor of Chittagong and ministers in Chittagong are trying to include their nearer and dearer in the new central committee. They are reportedly continuing the lobby with the central high ups in this regards, said reliable sources.
According to the sources, a total of 333 councilors and 1500 delegates from Chittagong will join the 20th National Council of ruling Awami League. The councilors and delegates are being selected from Chittagong city, Chittagong North and south District Committees. A total of 111 councilors and 5000 delegates from Chittagong city, 111 councilors and 5000 delegates from Chittagong North District committee and 111 councilors and 5000 delegates from Chittagong South District Committee will go to Dhaka for joining 20th National Council, Awami League leaders said.
Despite, the names of 111 councilors and 5000 delegates from Chittagong North District committee and 111 councilors and 5000 delegates from Chittagong South District Committee have already been sent to the central committee, the Chittagong city committee is yet to send the list of their 111 councilors and 5000 delegates to central committee.
The Chittagong City Committee will hold a meeting on October 18 and finalize the list of 111 councilors and 5000 delegates. Meanwhile, the leaders particularly one fraction of city committee demanded 220 councilors and 1000 delegates from Chittagong city Awami League.
Earlier, on October 10, the executive committee meeting of Chittagong City Committee of Awami League last evening at Darul Fazal Market’s office was held. The meeting was presided over by ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury.
