Chittagong Abahani Ltd took the solo lead in the new-look JB Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football playing a goalless draw with holders Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the 4th round opening match at Bir Muktijoddha Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium here on Friday.
With the day’s result, Ctg Abahani, Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup and Independence Cup champions, remained unbeaten in the league securing eight points from four matches with two wins and two draws.
Defending champions Sheikh Jamal DC also maintained unbeaten run collecting five points from four matches with one win and three draws.
Sheikh Jamal DC started their play brightly to enthrall around 15,000 houseful crowd.
Sheikh Jamal’s Haitian midfielder Landing Darboe cut a nice cross at the middle of the box from the left flank in the early period, but their forwards Enamul Haque and Emeka Darlinghton failed to connect the ball properly.
The match saw two quick attacks in the 21st and 22nd minutes.
Landing Darboe made a cut back that was blocked by Chittagong Abahani goalie Ashraful Islam Rana by a good dive. Later, Jamal midfielder Rakib Sarker again made a rebounder to the target, but custodian Rana again saved his castle kicking the ball away.
In a counter attack in the 23rd minute, Ctg Abahani forward Rubel Miah made an angular placing shot, but Sheikh Jamal defender Yasin Khan cleared the ball from the goal line.
Rubel created the chance with his quick footwork making his way beating Jamal defence and goalie Maksudur Rahman Mostak.
In the 69th minute, Sheikh Jamal substitute forward Wedson Anselme made a curved free kick from the edge of the box, but Ctg Abahani custodian Ashraful Islam Rana again saved his castle with a good dive at the cost of a corner.
In the 79th minute, Landing made his way through the Abahani defence carrying a through pass of Wedson Ansleme, but his attempt went outside to the frustration of Sheikh Jamal tent.
Emeka Darlington spoiled a golden chance in the 86th minute failing to tap a Wedson cutback from handshaking distance. Abhani defender Munna saved his side by a cool tackle.
