For the forthcoming home ODI series against Bangladesh, Cricket South Africa (CSA) chose a full-strength squad, sans Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala due to fitness concerns.
The three-match series, which will be played in Centurion and Johannesburg from March 18 to 23, will end just three days before the start of the IPL, which means that some of the South African players selected for the ODIs may miss some of their franchises’ early matches.
South Africa’s squad features eight players that will compete in the Indian Premier League- Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, Dwaine Pretorius and Marco Jansen.
The One Day Internationals are part of the World Cup Super League, and South Africa is now in 10th place after dropping points in Ireland and Sri Lanka. Bangladesh, on the other side, leads the standings with 100 points after ten games.
They have never won an ODI series against South Africa in South Africa, but they did win one in Bangladesh in 2015. Bangladesh also has a sizable South African backroom team with whom to strategize.
Former South African coach Russell Domingo is in charge, while former South African bowling coach Allan Donald has joined Bangladesh ahead of the series.
South Africa squad: Temba Bavuma (capt), Keshav Maharaj (vice-capt), Quinton de Kock (wk), Zubayr Hamza, Marco Jansen, Janneman Malan, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Wayne Parnell, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen, Kyle Verreynne.
