Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court yesterday deferred the date of cross-examination of Joj Mia to today (Tuesday), in the case of August 21 grenade attack.
Judge of the Tribunal Shahed Nur Uddin passed the order after the defense lawyers appealed to the court to adjourn the cross-examination. They said, they would appeal to the High Court against the court order of dismissing their plea seeking the exclusion of Joj Mia as a witness. They also said that as they did not get attested copy of the court order they could not appeal to the High Court.
Defense lawyers Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Kutubuddin Chowdhury and Parvez Hossain made submissions in favour of their appeal. State Prosecutors Syed Rezauddin Rahman and Akram Uddin Shyamal pleaded against the appeal.
Jalal Ahmed Joj Mia testified earlier on September 30. He was scheduled for cross- examination on Monday noon but the defense lawyers appealed to adjourn the deposition.
Joj Mia was held in 2005 after the grenade attacks in 2004. Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in 2008 submitted a charge sheet against him. Later, the court dropped his name from the case and released him in 2009.
A supplementary charge sheet of the case was submitted against 52 people. It include Joj Mia, his mother and sister as witnesses.
