BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday labeled the critics of his party founder late President Ziaur Rahman, as anti-liberation elements.
“Those who deny Ziaur Rahman’s contributions to the countrys independence are the anti-liberation elements and they are the followers of Pakistan,” the BNP Secretary General said while addressing the Gazipur district unit BNP’s biennial council at a convention centre in the city.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir accused the government of doing grievous misdeeds against the people of the country as done before independence.
“How the Pakistani rulers shattered democracy and killed people in 1971, is brown to all in the same way the present government of Bangladesh is destroying democracy, stampeded people’s rights. Filing cases and attacking opposition is the habit of the ruling Awami League,” said Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The BNP Secretary General alleged that widespread corruption has shadowed over the country.
“Whenever we read the daily newspapers every day, we only get the pictures of corruption,” the BNP leader said.
“We are against corruption and have sent a letter to the Anti-Corruption Commission recently,” he said.
He alleged that corruption has reached such a level in the country that Tk 23,000 crore had been plundered in purchasing the Covid vaccines during the pandemic.
Mirza Fakhrul said that per kilometre construction cost of the Gazipur BRT project from Uttara road was Tk 213 crore is an example of the corruption.
He claimed that there is no a country in the world where it costs Tk 213 crore to build one kilometre of road.
“I asked all the political parties to get united to form a pro-people and truly democratic government by defeating the current monstrous regime,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
He also advices his partymen not to be frustrated at the current bad time of the party as it will spring back back again. The BNP leader alleged that Awami League has repeatedly tried to eliminate BNP.
“Even the Ershad government also tried to do the same. But BNP emerged all times from the debris like a phoenix bird with people’s love. It will take place every era,” the BNP leader said.
