Joynal Abedin Khan :The number of crimes like murder, rape, extortion and snatching are increasing day by day as the law enforcers give more time to tackle the opposition parties’ political programme.At least 15 people were murdered in city and more than 20 rape incidents reported in the country during last 10 days. Police have been conducting their countrywide drives to nab the leaders and the activists of the anti-government alliance for days together. They are collecting information about the BNP-Jamaat men from the ruling party men in order to create a new panic among the countrymen, intelligence sources said. Police are continuing the ‘arrest businesses in the name of ‘special drive’ and arrested more than 15,000 people, including the leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir, police headquarter sources said. In this siituation, most of the BNP-Jamaat men had gone hiding to avert the arrest. Even common people have restricted their movement on the streets and the open places to avoid any police harassment. As a result, an uneasy situation has been prevailing in towns and localities which encouraged the criminals to commit various types of crimes.Police are trying to tackle  the murder and other criminal activities despite limitations, DMP sources said. Taking advantage of the police’s limitations, the professional criminals and miscreants are committing crimes without any fear across the city and elsewhere in the country, they said.In Gazipur, a businessman was hacked to death by unidentified assailants at Deupara village under Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Kamal Hossain, 37.Meanwhile, a woman was killed by robbers at Kapasia area of district on the day. The deceased is Rozena Akhter, 40. In Habiganj, Police recovered hanging bodies of a young couple from their house in Nabiganj upazila of the district on Sunday morning. The deceased were identified as Jubayel, 24, and his wife Lina Begum, 20.In the capital, a 25-year old woman allegedly burnt her husband pouring hot water on his body while the man was in asleep at their residence in the city’s Kalyanpur on Saturday. Victim Raja Molla, 33, is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.Police recovered the hanging body of a teenager from her room inside the office in the capital’s Mirpur area on November 16. The victim identified as Khadija Khatun Sima, 15, a student of class VII.Another four-year old girl was reportedly raped by a neighbour in the city’s Sabujbagh area on Saturday, while a teacher was arrested from a school in the capital’s Mirpur for sexually harassing an eight-year old girl on Thursday.In Narail, a 14-year-old girl was hospitalised in Narail’s Lohagara upazila after she was gang-raped on Tuesday. The victim, a fifth-grader at a local school in Gandhabaria area, was violated by four men after she eloped with her boyfriend Monirul Islam.In Brahmanbaria, miscreants chopped a trader to death in Majhiara village under Nabinagar upazila on Friday morning. The deceased was identified as Chhotan Saha, 45.In the meantime, Police in a drive arrested five persons in Chittagong on charge of snatching a covered van carrying a huge quantity of readymade garment (RMG) products of a Sri Lankan factory on Saturday. In Sirajganj, a young housewife was killed allegedly by her husband and the in-laws centering dowry at Maiz village in Chauhali upazila on Monday.In Chuadanga, a housewife was slaughtered to death allegedly by her husband over family feud at Gopinathpur village in Sadar upazila on Novembner 16. The deceased was Aliya Khatun.In Dinajpur, unidentified miscreants shot an Italian priest in Dinajpur on Wednesday, around one and a half months after another Italian citizen Cesare Tavella’s murder in Dhaka’s Gulshan area. The victim Piero, 50, was a physician of Suihari Catholic Mission Church.In Faridpur, a case was filed against 1,000 villagers in connection with a lynch-mob attack that left four suspected robbers dead in Sadar upazila on November 16. In Jessore, a teenage girl was found dead at Nadra village of Monirampur upazila during the early hours on November 16. But reason behind her death could not be known immediately.A female doctor’s body has been found in Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) residential area on November 16. The deceased is Dr Tanzila Jahan Mithila, 26.In Chittagong, a female readymade garment worker was allegedly slaughtered by her husband in Chittagong city’s EPZ area on November 17 Police recovered the dead body of Nazira Begum from Mohammadpur area. In Narayanganj, a leader of Mohila Awami League in Rupganj upazila of district was hacked to death on November 15. The deceased identified as Halima Begum Zarina, 35, was also a member local AL leader. In Kurigram, a drug addict son allegedly killed his father in Phulbari upazila of the district on November 16. The deceased was Abul Kashem Sarder, 56.Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque said, “All the police personnel have been asked to prevent violence.” “We are ready to give security to the people. No-one will be spared if they try to act violently.” the IGP said.
