Crimes committed by the members of elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) would not be tolerated anymore, RAB Director General (DG) Benazir Ahmed warned on Friday.
“We are attaching the highest importance to continue the clean image of RAB at any cost. So that any sort of crime committed by RAB member will be dealt with an iron hand,” he said while distributing blankets among cold-hit poor in Rangpur city yesterday.
He said the RAB members who were involved in crimes have been identified and many of them were terminated from the jobs and sent to the jail.
“We didn’t give shelter to the RAB members who had committed crimes,” the RAB DG claimed.
He said the judgment of sensational Narayanganj seven murder case will not tarnish the image of the elite force.
“The RAB members who were involved in the sensational seven murder have already got punishment for committing the crime. RAB wouldn’t be responsible for that,” he said.
Referring to militant issue, he said that the number of bad people or militants was very few and negligible compared to the huge population of the country.
“The number of militants in Bangladesh is much less than 1,000, most of them were arrested, some of them were killed in encounters with police or RAB and the rest are now very much cornered under pressure,” he said.
