The eminent economist and scholar Dr Akbar Ali Khan on Saturday said, repression against women is taking place unabatedly due to the culture of impunity.
Dr Akbar Ali Khan said it as the chief guest in the Parliamentary Debate Competition on Feni madrasa student Nusrat titled ‘Brave Nusrat, you are logic, you are the protest.’
The debate was organised by Debate for Democracy at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) auditorium in Dhaka earlier in the day.

Dr Akbar Ali Khan, former adviser to the caretaker government, accused the police of unnecessarily delaying in taking First Information Report (FIR).
“Repression against women is not decreasing due to the culture of impunity,” he said in the context of Nusrat murder.
Law should be reformed, otherwise the overall situation will not improve.
Bangladesh can share the experience of some Scandinavian countries which are less prone to such crimes, he said.
He also gave three-point recommendations on women empowerment, reform in legal and policing system and good governance.
