A Correspondent, Khulna :
Law and order situation has deteriorated in Khulna recently Policemen are allegedly busy in money making through arrest business by putting drugs into pockets of innocent persons.
Khulna Metropolitan Police(KMP) is comprised with eight police stations. They are- Khulna Kotwali(OC – Shafiqul Islam), Sonadanga ( OC – Sukumer Biswas), Khalishpur(OC- Anwar Hossain), Daulatpur(OC- Maruf Ahmed), Khanjahan Ali(OC- Akter Hossain), Arongghata(OC- Amir Taymur Ellie), Horintana(OC- Mizanur Rahman) and Labonchara police station(OC- Habibur Rahman).
Among them Daulatpur police station is on the ahead in respect of corruption including arresting innocent persons and taking bribe from them, it is alleged.
There are several drug points at different places under Daulatpur police station. Monthly toll collection is going on from these drug and other points.
Besides, by order of OC Maruf Ahmed, six motorcycle patrol teams comprising with SI and ASIs roam in Daulatpur area and allegedly put ganja(hemp) into the pockets of innocent pedestrians. Thereafter they arrest them, take in the police station and let them free after taking a large amount of money. The innocent local people are fearing to go out even for their important works. SI Shariful, SI Selim and ASI Saiful are conducting the motorcycle patrol team.
It may be mentioned in this connection that SI Selim of Daulatpur police station went for a drive along with an accused Chhoto Shahin, but on the way accused Shahin managed to flee with handcuff from police custody.
Recently they arrested a SSC examinee and let him free taking Tk 20000 from him. A small trader and an easy bike driver were also victims of them.
All the policemen from OC to Bakhshi(Clerk) have been harassing the innocent persons.
Recently this correspondent found that a police pick up was standing in front of Pabla Ishakia mosque where the policemen were harassing some college students in the name of checking.
Hotel Shamim at Daulatpur baby taxi stand is opened whole day and night as such the criminals take shelter here after committing offences, police take extortion monthly from this hotel and do not shut it, local people alleged.
However, Law enforcers are breaking law, policemen of Daulatpur police station is the best instance in this regard.
They are violating Articles 32, 33, 35, 36 and 37 of the constitution of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh.
Besides, duty officers of Daulatpur police station are declined to give information to the journalists, they ask to take information from OC, but when any journalist wants to know anything from OC through cell phone, he feels embarrass and ask to come to the police station.
The scenario of all the police stations are the same.
KMP Commissioner Nibash Chandra Majhee told in a view exchange meeting immediate after his joining in the KMP that no compromise will be made with drug or drug peddlers. But it is a matter of great regret that Khulna city dwellers are facing opposite scene in real lives.
Traffic division of KMP is also an example of public harassment. Sergeants take extortion from transport drivers at different points in the city.
Murder, bomb blasting, extortion, snatching and robbery are the common feature of Khulna city.
Repeated bomb blasting injured some persons in Daulatpur area under Daulatpur police station.
Around Tk.2 lakh were snatched from Phulbarigate area under Khanjahan Ali police station on March 18,2016.
30 murder was committed in 2015. Bomb blasting is the daily routine work of the miscreants.
At Patherbazar police camp under Khanjahan Ali police station, bus passengers are harassed by the police in the name of checking. But ASI Abul Kalam Azad was closed from Patherbazar camp on charge of removing 700 bottles of Indian contraband Phensedyl.
OC Amir Taymur Ellie, SI Firoj and Ibrahim of Arongghata police station were sued by a trader, because they gave threat to him of crossfire as he did not meet their demand of Tk.50 thousand. This case was filed in the court of Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Abir Parvez .
Md. Mahbub Hakim, Additional Deputy Commissioner of KMP said, the number of police stations has increased but the manpower almost remain the same
