Dhaka Central Jail authorities have denied as baseless allegation made in a report published in The New Nation on March 12 with the headline ‘Crime in Dhaka Central Jail’ based on talks with some recently released prisoners.
In fact misunderstanding arises because statements in this context from Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and DIG (Prison)
Tawhid Islam were mistakenly could not be covered due to some technical foult.
When contacted before going to the press in this regard, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on March 11 told The New Nation that he had no information about such corruptions inside the central jail.
“As a reporter you can find out the truth. If it is true then publish those reports in the newspapers, if not then help me by providing the real information,” he said.
DIG (Prison) Tawhid Islam told The New Nation that he was not informed of any such incidents in the jail.
Md. Jahangir Kabir, Senior Jail Super of Dhaka Central Jail, Keraniganj said that the published report on crime in Dhaka Central Jail was not true that corruption of Jail staffs have made the Dhaka Central Jail a mental torture-cell instead of building it as a correction centre.
