Crimes-free society, particularity free from drug addiction, must be built at any cost to protect people and the young generation in particular from consequences of deadly aggression of crimes.
To attain the cherished goal, the law enforcing agencies and the community people should have to work together as law enforcers alone isn’t capable to overcome the crises.
Discussants made these observations while addressing a mass-rally against all sorts of drug addiction held at Shekherchalk area under Boalia Police Station in the city yesterday afternoon.
Mahtab Hossain Chowdhury, Councilor of Ward No. 23 of Rajshahi City Corporation, organized the rally with the main thrust of encouraging and motivating the community people towards eliminating various social crimes to maintain a sound law and order.
Md Shamsuddin, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP), attended the function as the chief guest, with Jahir Uddin, a Valliant Freedom Fighter, in the chair.
RMP Deputy Police Commissioner (Headquarters) Tanveer Haider Chowdhury, Additional Deputy Commissioner Atiqur Rahman Mian, Senior Assistant Police Commissioner Mahmud Hassan and Assistant Police Commissioner Ifte Khayer Alam also spoke on the occasion.
In his welcome speech, Mahtab Hossain Chowdhury said various social crimes like drug-addiction, sexual harassment to schoolgirls, violence against women and early marriage could be mitigated through successful functioning of the community based policing.
RMP Commissioner Md Shamsuddin said the community people should extend cooperation towards police with specific information about the criminals.
He said the community people know well about location of the criminals, drug traffickers and traders and the police need the information from the citizens for taking legal action against them.
He added that police-citizens joint patrolling and drives against the social crimes are the main objective of the community based policing and there is no alternative to activating it to free the society from the crimes.
The community based policing had been introduced in the metropolis with a noble view, but the community people should take the responsibility of making it effective. “If you give us authentic information about the criminals and other anti-social elements, we will put in our level best efforts to bring those to book as early as possible,” he reminded the community people.
