UNB, Dhaka :
Describing the attack on Sylhet college student Khadija Akter as a dangerous crime against humanity, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday alleged that such incidents are happening due to the pampering of BCL by the ruling party.
Talking to reporters after visiting Khadija at Square Hospital in the capital, he also alleged that the country’s law and order has totally collapsed. “In his attempt to kill Khadija, a Chhatra League leader stabbed her brutally and inhumanly like a demon, leaving her seriously injured… this incident has exposed once again from where the terrorists are getting pampered and how they are indulging in terror acts,” the BNP leader said.
He further said, “Not only Khadija’s one, but also many such incidents have already taken place in the country. Unfortunately, these incidents are happening due to the indulging of BCL by the ruling party.”
On Monday Khadija, 23, a student of Sylhet Govt Women’s College, was stabbed allegedly by Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit BCL leader Badrul Alam on her way home from college following the refusal of his proposal for having an affair with him.
Hearing the victim’s screams, locals rescued Khadiza and caught Badrul from the spot and handed him over to police after giving him a good thrashing.
Khadija was taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital from where she was moved to Dhaka around 12.10 am on Tuesday as her condition deteriorated.
Fakhrul, on behalf of his party, demanded the government ensure exemplary punishment to Khadija’s attacker by putting him on trial. “We also strongly condemn and protest the incident.”
The BNP leader said he saw Khadija at the ICU in an unconscious state. “Physicians told me she’s now in between the life and death, and they’ll come to a decision about her condition after next 48 hours.”
