Cricketer Shahadat’s wife Jesmin’s bail plea rejected

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Wednesday rejected another bail petition of cricketer Shahadat Hossain Rajib’s wife, Jesmin Jahan Nrittya in a case filed for torturing her domestic help Mahfuza Akhter Happy.
Magistrate Amirul Haider Chowdhury of Dhaka CMM Court passed the order after hearing on her bail petition. Advocate Kazi Nazibullah Hero appeared to the court on behalf of Nrittya.
Nrittya was arrested from her father’s house at Pabna Lane in Malibagh area of the city at the early hours of October 4 and later she was sent to the court with a five-day remand
prayer. However, the court allowed police three days to grill her at the jail gate. She was sent to the jail rejecting her bail plea.
Meanwhile, Shahadat surrendered to the court on October 5, a day after police arrested his wife Nrittya. The court also sent Shahadat to the jail after his surrender. Later, on October 8, the court placed Shahadat on a three-day remand to interrogate him in the case. On October 13, the CMM Court sent Shahadat to the jail refusing his bail plea on completion of the remand.
On September 7, journalist Khandaker Mozammel Haque rescued injured Mahfuza Akhter Happy, 11, the domestic help of Shahadat from on a road of Pallabi area of the city. Later, he filed the case against Shahadat and his wife with Mirpur Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000. Happy also claimed that Shahadat and his wife tortured her. Besides, Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakraborty of the CMM Court recorded a judicial statement of the child on September 21.
